Family Event: Dealing with Tragedy | Statement from ISB President – Islamic Society of Baltimore

STATEMENT FROM THE ISB PRESIDENT
in the Wake of the Terrorist Hate Attack on Two New Zealand Mosques

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh,

I pray that this message finds you with good health and strong imaan. I pray that you are safe, secure and are able to reach a state of peace through submission to Allah, the Wise. Ameen.

My heart aches. I am sure yours does too. The news coming out of New Zealand is truly gut-wrenching.

Please know that ISB has stepped up the security presence. We are working closely with the Baltimore County Police Department and the Baltimore County Executive’s Office to keep our community safe.

Physical security is but one piece of this tragedy, however. Social, psychological, emotional and spiritual well-being are of the utmost importance.

Many people respond to tragedy differently. Fear, anxiety, depression, confusion, and withdrawal are all possible responses. But so are vigilance, forbearance, and supporting one another. This is a time for us to be there for each other.

Tonight, ISB will be hosting a family night event after Maghrib – “Dealing with Tragedy: How The Prophet (SAW) Brought The Muslim Community Together In A Time Of Need” with Sheikh Saad Baig and Dr. Lisa Killinger.

Should you need additional support, the ISB office has listings of local counselors and mental health professionals who are sensitive to Muslim cultures and practices.

We are deeply thankful for the outpouring of support from various faith communities and civic organizations.

May Allah Subhannahu Wa Ta’aala unite our hearts and give us all peace and tranquility. Ameen.

Dr. Ed Tori
President
